Crochet Temperature Project: 2018 Lumbar Pillow

Hi friends and readers!!

I had been quite intrigued for a few years about “Temperature Projects” and really kept thinking about starting one. Then late in 2017, I was just scrolling through my Facebook newsfeed and there was an ad for a super long lumbar pillow in an Aztec type print with lots of beautiful reds and vibrant colors and it just “whammied” me! I knew then what I wanted my first temperature project to be. And here it is – all done.

If you are not familiar with Temperature Projects, you are basically crocheting or knitting a row/round/strip each day based on the high or low temperature that day.  I definitely think you will get better results if you use the high temperature.  You can create your own color palette and decide how many degrees you want between the temperatures.

When I began this project, I really had no idea it was going to be quite so long. It’s a little too long for my king size bed, but it’s still quite fabulous if I do say so myself.

I started the first row in Violet since it was the 2017 Color of the Year and then just went from there. I had about 5-6 degrees for each color that I used; sparkly white for snow; melon for mostly rain days; red white and blue for holidays like 4th of July, Veteran’s Day etc. I also chose a fun color for Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I made a pillow liner than I stuffed inside just in case this monstrosity ever needs washed. I have little ties on the final row.

I am quite thankful that this one is done – it was time consuming, but not near as much as a blanket. I think each row was 102 stitches around.

That said, my 2019 temperature project will be a little bit different.

Update: My 2019 Temperature Project is ON THIS POST
