You, Me and the ABCs : Crochet ABC Toys

If you are a crocheter and have a baby or toddler, play room or nursery, and love organization and helping your child learn – this post is for you!

I have a new way for you to support my FREE PATTERNS!!  I know many or most of you love supporting us makers – the truth is that is takes a long time to create a pattern and then write it and then edit it and get it proofed and tested – and then publish it – then you have to link it everywhere – its a lot of work, but us makers do what we do to share our love with you.  And, if you have followed my blog you may know that I do not run ads on my blog so all my support comes from PDF purchases. Some of you don’t need to purchase the PDF of my patterns, but still want to say a quick Thank you – so, you can now support my blog and my work.

Want a fun way to use your scraps? Want to make a lot of little projects/toys that are great for little ones? Want to custom a special piece for a wee one? – and then end with one big finale? This project is for you! (And you can skip the big finale if it’s not for you and still have all the little toys and ABCs.)  UPDATE: THE FINALE IS HERE!

This project was in my head as I was designing all of these letters and I’m so excited to get this started! Won’t you join me?

You can begin by deciding what colors you want to use – I’ll be using them all! – and make up the alphabet  or save this post and wait for the end and make it all at once.

I’m gonna give you some options at the end to make the final part right for you/your space.

In addition to the alphabet patterns, here is a list of toys that will be linked right here starting now. *these are not set in stone and I may decide to switch them as I work if I am inspired in a different direction. So, pin or save this post and come back and follow along with me or subscribe to my blog and get email updates when I make a new post.

I will using some of the patterns that I’ve already made for this ABC project and you will see those linked below. I’ll be starting the new ones presently and will link them as I finish. You can go ahead and get started today! I can’t wait to share this with you. I’m planning on at least a weekly update, but I’m going to shoot for two per week. I’m gonna try.

So, join me. Save this post. Let’s get started!

For most all of these projects I encourage you to dig in your stash.  Use some scrap yarns when you can  I’ll also be using stuffing, crinkle paper, rattle boxes, squeaker toy inserts, and safety eyes.  All patterns listing have/will have a full material list.

*Click on each Toy Link below to get to the blog post with the pattern.

I have compiled the first letters of this event in a convenient downloadable PDF if you prefer to print them out and have them all in one place.

You can find the toys for all the letters in my Etsy Shop. I have them broken down into smaller parts, but have just uploaded the final huge part.

Part 1: A-F HERE ON MY ETSY.

Part 2:  the letters G-M

You can find Part 3 with the letters N-S

The last small part – Part 4 with the letters T-Z is now available.

If you’ve been waiting to purchase the PDFs until the end now is your chance!! I can’t even believe they are all finished or that I am giving away everything for this one small price.

MY ENTIRE COMPLETE SERIES PLUS A BUNCH OF EXTRAS IS NOW AVAILABLE.

There are OVER 60 patterns in that final bundle!!! 60+ toys patterns.

And MOST ALL of my PAID patterns contain way more photos and tutorials than what I can add to my blog post. I try to keep my fees very low.

This project was in my head as I was designing all of these letters and I’m so excited to get this series finished! Won’t you join me?  If you prefer to shop on Ravelry for your patterns I also have the entire alphabet PDF over there.

I will try to work on uploading these to Ravelry if you prefer Ravelry for your patterns, but it will be a while.  If you are familiar with Ravelry, you may know that I have to upload each one separately over there – I can’t list bundles together so each and every small toy must have it’s own page.  That will take me a while, but I will try to get it done.  I don’t believe I will be able to do it all this year.

Set 1 includes Airplane, Apple, Ball, Bunny, Car, Cat, Dog, Dino, Eel, Eye, Flower and Frog.  I also have a free copy of my Scrappy the Dino pattern.

Set 2 is a 39-page PDF and also has a copy of my Hedgehog pattern.  It includes Grapes, Guitar,, Heart, Hedgehog, Ice Cream, Inchworm, Jar of Jelly/Jam, Jellyfish, Keys, Kite, Manatee, Mermaid, and Monkey.

You can find Part 3 with the letters N-S : That 41-page PDF contains the following patterns:

Nest, Ninja, Octopus, Panda, , Penguin, Pig, Queen, Rainbow, Robot *you get ALL 3 Robot’s in this PDF and not just the two on my blog, Snake or Snail, , Sun, and two more PDFs: O is for Otter and Owl and you get MY INCREASE AND DECREASE CHEAT SHEET! Part 3 has a LOT!

The last part contains the rest of the toys – letters T-Z

Airplane

Apple

Alligator: I have a new pattern this year in a baby animal series that I am working on for an Alligator.  It wasn’t planned for this project specifically, but it would be a cute addition.  It is not currently on my blog, but you can find it HERE on my ETSY. Or Find it on my Ravelry.

Ball – for the ball toys in this project, I refer you to this post to make one – or many – crochet balls using your scrap yarns.  The more textures the better.  You can also add rattle boxes, squeakers, stress balls as filler and more.

I did V is for Vampire Bat in this series, but this pattern can also be a fun B is for Bat.  Pick this for any spot you want.

Crochet Bee

Bird – I made up a handful of birds for a woodland themed baby gift that I worked on this year and thought they would be a perfect addition to this toy series.  These were blogged in back to back post with N is for Nest. Find B is for Bird free here on my blog.

Bunny – I have made a few bunnies in the past and  I will be making another version of my Clover the Baby Bunny Pattern, but I also have a few NEW SMALL bunnies right HERE.

Here is the other version of my Clover the Baby Bunny Pattern.  It’s a super quick bunny, but soft and squishy.

Car

Cat

C for Cow was not in my original plan, but I have been working all year on a baby animal series and this adorable little baby cow is only about 13″ so is a perfect little size for this project.  It can be found in my ETSY Shop HERE.

D for Deer was not in my original plan, but I was commissioned to make a woodland baby ensemble after I started this project and this critter came about from that.  It is a nice cute size for this project and can be found on my Etsy and my Ravelry

Dinosaur – here on my blog you will find an entire Dinosaur Family.  For this ABC event, I will be making a different version of Scrappy.  He’s the perfect size and uses up some assorted scrap yarns.  If you want a different option, Baby Pea is also a nice small size and also Pinky the Dezzy Inspired DRAGON is a good choice for the Letter D.

Dog

Here is another fun FREE extra you can find here on my blog from my Farm Series.  D is for Duck

Eel

Eye – I will be using the eyeball pattern from my Halloween Bag of Balls for this project, but if you find it too weird or spooky for a baby let me know and I’m sure I can whip up a different one.  This one would be super cute with some crinkle paper inside.  *Also, when you visit this post there is a Zombie ball that would make a cute Z word  and I will most likely be altering the colors on this Zombie ball and making a few additions to do a Ninja toy for N.

I have added a post just for E is for Eye right HERE so you won’t have to weed through my other post.

Flower

Fox: I have a new pattern this year in a baby animal series that I am working on for a Fox.  It wasn’t planned for this project specifically, but it would be a cute addition.  It is not currently on my blog, but you can find it HERE on my ETSY. Or Find it on my Ravelry.

Frog

Giraffe: I have a new pattern this year in a baby animal series that I am working on for a Giraffe.  It wasn’t planned for this project specifically, but it would be a cute addition.  It is not currently on my blog, but you can find it HERE on my Etsy or find it on my Ravelry

Goat – here on my blog you will find Ginger the Goat in my Farm Series.  She is maybe a bit large for this project, but may be a good addition if you want a mix of items and sizes. **UPDATE:  I have made a smaller baby Goat version.  This small baby goat is only 13″ so perfect for this series.  You can find her in my ETSY HERE.

Grapes

Guitar

Heart

Hedgehog

H for Horse (or P for Pony) was not in my original plan, but I have been working on a Baby Animal Series and this one is a nice cute size – about 13″ – for this project and can be found in my Etsy Shop HERE.

Ice cream

Inch worm

Jar with Jam/Jelly and a Jingle

Jellyfish

Keys

Kite

Lamb– another make from my Farm Series is Lonny the Lamb.  Lonny is a  nice, small size so I will be using this pattern here for the  Lamb, but will switch up the colors I’m sure. Maybe bright? Maybe a girl?

Ladybug

Lizard

Manatee

Mermaid

Monkey

Nest

Ninja

Octopus – in my opinion this octopus squeeze ball is the perfect baby toy when made from cotton so this is the pattern that I will be using right here.  I like to use 100% cotton and the stress/squeeze balls on the inside of the head and it makes these the perfect baby toy with teether capabilities.  And they are so quick to make you can make a handful.

Otter – I have a new Otter pattern that is part of my Baby Animal seriesThe free version is now blogged for this series, but you can find the PDF pattern here on my Etsy.

Prefer Ravelry?  I have Baby O the Otter there as well.

  1. Link Issue: The link to J is for Jellyfish actually goes to Ice Cream.
Thank you for all these fun patterns.

  2. Just found your “stuff” on a pinterest post and I am blown away! Not sure if it’s because of your fantastic creativity, or all the colors, or what, but whatever it is, thank you! I signed up for a lot of your free patterns so far, and will follow you on IG. Do you have a facebook page? Anyway, I’m awed for sure!

    1. Thank you Claudia. I do have a Facebook page in the same name, but it is a mix of work and local business. All my best and I’d love to see your makes ❤️
