Hi Readers and Crocheters!! I decided to purge and clean up for the beginning of this year and am working through so many skeins of yarn!! I was recently inspired by a photo of an older project that I did that came up in my Facebook memories on my business page also called The Burgundy Basket.
I will be updating some of my older scrap yarn posts, but I also have some new things in the works.
I am also working on my next Free Blog Pattern that will be called “10 Little Monkeys Jumping In the Bed” so don’t go far!!
There is something so special and happy about round crochet scrap yarn pillows!!
Don’t they just make you happy? Each and every one you make is different and unique and just so cool!!
I have worked through about 20 skeins of yarn for these new pillows and blankets so please keep reading for more.
First, this scrappy yarn pillow is a new take on one of my older patterns that you CAN FIND HERE ON THIS LINK. It is a free pattern here on my blog.
I followed that pattern almost entirely except that I used my size 8mm hook and held two strands at a time of mainly Big Twist yarn with some Red Heart Super Saver and I Love This Yarn. If you are using a nice pillow form that comes with a cover, there is no fear of having stuffing come out or get uneven over time.

I made two of the smaller pillows up to round 20 with an 18″ round pillow insert
and one larger pillow up to round 25 using this 21″ round pillow insert
Your size may vary so I encourage you to order a pillow form in the size you want and work the rounds to work with the pillow you order so that you ensure a good fit.
BUT, I caution you: You want the crochet work to be a bit smaller than the pillow when you stop the increase rounds and work straight. It helps to fill out the crochet pillow if your form isn’t too small and when you work the straight rounds it does tend to make the “straight” work larger. If you start with a pillow form just lay your crochet work over the top of the form. I suggest stopping your increase rounds when you have about 1 inch around the form visible.
For the 18″ pillow above with the popcorn finish, I added a popcorn stitch every 5th stitch on the final round since I had 120 stitches. Since I was using single crochet around the pillow, after I secured my popcorn stitch, I ended with a chain 3 that I slip stitched back into the stitch where my popcorn began and then continued with my next set of sc. (A popcorn is 5dc pulled together. You can find online tutorials for how to do a popcorn stitch, but here at the end you want to add a chain 3 and slip stitch back into the stitch where the popcorn began so you can then sc to the next stitch for the next popcorn) Of course, you can do any other type of border or end on your pillow. My other two are simply a sc around to join the two pieces.
Now, moving onto the blankets, I’ll note the pattern that I used below.
I have a new way for you to support my FREE PATTERNS!! I know many or most of you love supporting us makers – the truth is that is takes a long time to create a pattern and then write it and then edit it and get it proofed and tested – and then publish it – then you have to link it everywhere – it’s a lot of work, but us makers do what we do to share our love with you. And, if you have followed my blog, you may know that I do not run ads on my blog, so all my support comes from PDF purchases. Some of you don’t need to purchase the PDF of my patterns but still want to say a quick Thank you – so, you can now support my blog and my work.
Okay, here are the boring bits:
I want to say thank you for all who stop by to support my patterns and my blog. I have chosen to NOT do ads on my blog, but I do have very inexpensive PDFs in both my Ravelry and Etsy Shops if you would like to support my patterns.
This pattern is intended for personal use only. This pattern -and all my patterns- are offered for free or a small fee to help support my family so please do not redistribute, sell, copy or use them in any way not in accordance with fairness.
You may sell products made from this pattern, but please give me credit as the designer. Please do not use my photos as your own work, but you may use my photos to reference back to my blog, Etsy, Pinterest, IG or FB, but please link back to me.
If you find any problems with this pattern, please let me know and if you have any problems with any of it feel free to message me and ask for support.

I will grab better pictures of the blankets and update this post with the sizes in the next day or two. I had cloudy gray skies today and no good place for a good picture for those. I made one full size blanket and two baby/toddler blankets, but they were made the same way.
I held two strands of yarn together at the same time with my size 8mm hook. I kept one strand the same all the way through and changed the colored yarn only. I used a light silvery gray all the way through, and the entire blanket is made with just hdc. The color changes are what keeps it interesting. The border is also a simple hdc border with 3hdc in the corner space. I used two strands of the light gray for the border. I also use a chain 1 when I hdc to turn. I know some use a chain 2, but I find that a chain 1 keeps the edges neater.
For the full-size blanket, I changed the color yarn every 5th row and used 19 different colors and for the two baby blankets I changed every 6th row and did 10 colors.
The full-sized blanket starts with a chain of 121 and the baby size a chain of 75.
I can tell you that for the full-sized blanket, I used 2 full skeins of Caron One Pound Jumbo in Soft Gray Mix and 1 for the other two smaller ones. I started with 3 full skeins of that yarn (3 balls) (16oz/453.6g/812yds/742m)
If you want to know exactly what colors that I used in the larger blanket here is my list:
