Crochet Marshmallow Mug Gifts

How fun are these crocheted marshmallows?  These work up so fast and are so cute!!!  Imagine them strung together on a line? Make up some for Christmas Tree ornaments by adding a little hanger on top.

Each year I make dozens of coffee/tea mugs with mug cozies and add hot chocolate and teas – they sell at my local shop as quick and inexpensive gifts for office workers, teachers, friends etc.  But, this year I had a few Christmas themed mugs that were so cute that I didn’t want to cover them up with a cozy so I thought I would make up some marshmallows to go with hot chocolate.  And this is what I ended up with! How fun are these? And this pattern is so quick – they only took me about 10 minutes.  I wanted to share this quick and simple pattern so that you can make up your own marshmallows.

What you need:

2 skeins/balls -or scraps – of #4 worsted weight yarn in off white ( I held two strands together the entire time to give these a stiff texture)

Size I crochet hook

Safety eyes (or you can use black yarn to embroider eyes and mouth)

Some stuffing – I used polyfill, but these are so small you can stuff with whatever you have on hand.

Yarn Needle

Blush – optional, but fun!

Here we go:

Round 1: Chain 2 and put 6 sc in the second chain from hook. Slip stitch into first sc and chain 1

Round 2: Crochet 2 sc in each stitch around for 12 sc.  Slip stitch into first sc and chain 1

Round 3: Crochet BACK LOOP ONLY all the way around for 12 sc.

Round 4-8: Crochet 1 sc in each stich around. Slip stitch to first stitch and chain 1 or crochet in a spiral if that is how you prefer for each round.

*I did the mouth after I had rounds 4 and 5 complete because this is stiff and small and its easier to tie the ends into the marshmallow if you do it here.

I added eyes before completing the next round. Use my photos as a guide for placement.

Round 9: Repeat Round 3

Stuff.

Round 10: Dec sc around (6)

Fasten off and leave a long tail.

What I did was to tie off and then weave my tail from the top to the bottom a few times pulling a little to draw the top and bottoms in a bit to make it a little concave.  And then you are done!  Add some blush and have a little bit of cuteness for anything you wish.

*For my mugs I used a wooden flower stick and just stuck the stick into the bottom a little way.
