First, I have been trying to get a few more examples of these guys done for a while to post some variations, but my Etsy orders have begun for the season and a few other things have been going on – so, I thought I would go ahead and post this and then add my other examples when I am done. My next guys are going to be blues and greens. Update: they are now done.

Several things inspired this mama and baby octopus – first, I frequently find brand new crochet baby blankets at my local thrift store. As a crocheter (or knitter) you know how to tell if an item is brand new and I hate to see them unloved. When I do find these baby blankets and small afghans, I get them and make toys to go with them and sell as a set. Second, I have really been trying to stash bust this whole year! Third, these are so fast to make up and so mcuh fun! And, last, when I am working on projects, orders, etc I tend to try to use every bit of a yarn that I pull out of my stash while I have that yarn out in my workspace. This often leads me to the unexpected – so, after finishing my Peony the Pony and Unity the Unicorn patterns, I had some of these yarns in my area and decided to whip them into some octopus toys.
TIP: add some rattle parts or crinkle paper for fun.
I have used the same pattern for these as my small squeeze ball octopus pattern but, the smaller one is made holding two strands and the large one made holding three strands. For the two stranded toy, I have used my size K crochet hook and for the larger, 3-stranded toy I used my 7.0mm hook. You can get the exact same hooks that I use through my affiliate link here:

I do have to share this fun Box that we just got today! I purchased 6-months of this to try for our big dog, Ruger. He’s a Blue Heeler and so smart and fun. I was NOT expecting all of this stuff that I got today – and that big round toy in the middle – he pulled it off our table after I opened the box and has not put it down yet!
