Materials:
This Duck uses very small amounts of Caron One Pound in Sunflower, Red Heart Super Saver in Latte, Red Heart Super Saver in Pumpkin, and a small bit of leftover Yarn Bee Tender Touch in pale yellow for the Wings and Tail. The Yarn Bee yarn is leftover from making Butterbean the Bunny so check her out if you have not. This pattern is actually almost identical to the pattern for Butterbean’s baby bunny, Clover. Any 4-ply worsted weight yarn will work for this pattern. If you choose to use a different yarn please adjust your hook size accordingly.
-Hook: I used an G hook for the body, head, legs, and my H hook for the bill, and my J hook for the wings and tail because I held two strands of yarn together for these.
-Safety Eyes or buttons (or yarn to embroider if you choose) and needle to embroider face.
-Stuffing. I have used Poly-Fill brand stuffing, but feel free to use what you prefer.
Stitches Used:
Chain: Ch
Single Crochet: SC
Inc Sc: make two single crochet stitches in the same stitch as indicated
Invisible Decrease: inv. dec. – this is an invisible single crochet decrease
Hdc: half double crochet
Dc: Double crochet
Tc: Treble crochet
Picot: This is a chain 3 and then slip stitch into the bottom of your chain 3 in the first chain or alternatively you can slip stitch into the stitch where your chain 3 begins.
This is a simplified pattern – a chart with the numbers – you need to have knowledge of crochet amigurumi and how to do rounds and increases to read. If you do it will be pretty straight forward. **but, I have recently added the extra “cheat sheet” to all my Etsy patterns to help you use the charts.
I start my work with a chain 2 and then sc in second chain from hook, but you can also start with a magic ring if you prefer that start.
This pattern starts at the top of the head and goes into body without breaking off your yarn. It finishes off under the body.

36 | 6 Sew opening closed. At this point I attached my yarn to the top and make a few chains to make top “feathers” on the head. I attached yarn and did a chain between 8-12 and slip stitched back into the head 3 times. |
Feet/Legs (make two): *with H hook if you are using the materials I used or similar. I didn’t stuff these at all and also pulled a few stitches in matching yarn in the center of foot to sew flat.
Row/Round | Stitch Count/Number |
1 | 6 |
2 | 12 |
3 | 18 |
4 | 24 |
5-8 | 24 |
9 | 18 |
10 | 12 |
11 | 6 |
12-21 | 6 *FO leave long tail to sew |
Tail: for my fluffy tail I used my J hook and two strands of yarn. I used a little bit of a #5 yarn held together with my main color.
Chain 4. In first chain do all of the following: Dc, Dc, Tc, Tc, Dc, Dc, Chain 3 and slip stitch back into the same space. Then repeat the above two times more. You will get a little “flower” like puff for the tail.
Bill: I used an H hook for my bill and a small bit of orange/pumpkin.
Chain 5. In the 2nd chain from hook Sc and Sc in the next 2 chains. Make 3sc in the last chain and then turn your work so you are working on the opposite side of the chain and do 1 sc in each chain and 1 more sc in the last space for a total of 10 sc around your chain.
For round 2, I work in a continuous spiral, but if you want to join and chain up 1 when you get around that is fine. Make 2 sc in each sc around for 20 sc.
Rounds 3 and 4 are just a sc in each sc around (20)
For round 5, we are going to decrease to 15 sc – so, (sc, sc, inv dec over 2) repeat around (15)
FO and leave a long tail. I weaved my tail in and out of the stitches to cinch the bill up a little more on bottom before sewing it on the face.
Wings (make two): *with J hook if you are using the materials I used or similar. I used the same thing for my tail as I did for my wings. The wings are made in a “semi-circle” – we are chaining and turning to make a half circle instead of joining and working in the round.
Chain 2. 5 hdc in the 2nd chain from hook. Ch 1 and turn.
Hdc two times in each stitch (10)
Ch 1 and turn
(hdc in next, 2 hdc in next) repeat (15)
Ch 1 and turn
(hdc in next, hdc in next ,2 hdc in next) repeat (20)
Ch 1. Now, you are going to SC across the flat edge to make a nice edge. Sc evenly – for me it was 8 sc.
FO and leave long tail to sew. Fold the half circle in half and seam along the flat edge. Sew to body.
