Crochet Sampler Blanket: A King-Sized Project

Have you ever made a sampler crochet blanket?  A blanket full of so many different stitch combinations?  This was my first one!  I love the end result.

I finally finished this gorgeous sampler blanket early this year after starting it in January 2018.  I decided when I started this blanket to commit to just one row per day.  One row per day seems like an easy enough task, right?  Well, even with that personal commitment, I sometimes skipped a few days and then found myself having to do many days at once to catch back up again.

After getting all the rows finally complete, it did take me a while to start to think about weaving in all of these ends.  I know most of us really hate that part – so, if you tackle a project like this I encourage you to weave in as you go if possible.  I was doing a border around my blanket, so I decided to weave the ends in as I worked the border and that worked out okay.

When it was finished and I spread it on the bed it was so rewarding!! Look how fresh and fabulous this large blanket turned out.  This is a large project and one that will require some time and patience.  My blanket is a king size, but you could easily modify and make it a much smaller size for a couch or smaller bed.

The pattern I *mostly* used is HERE

Look how fabulous this huge blanket turned out! I mostly used the pattern mentioned above, but I did substitute some rows here and there. I love a great crocheted blanket with tons of texture and different stitches. There were two of these stitch combinations that I had never done before. I mixed up my yarns and used some from my stash and some new skeins. The wide ranging colors on this one is what really makes this pop!

Materials:

This blanket uses an assortment of yarns from my stash. I have used all 4-ply worsted weight yarns for this blanket.  I have used a lot of Big Twist yarn in this blanket as well.  Some of those links are here:

Dark Teal

Medium Teal

Light Teal

Light Rose

Medium Rose

Hook : I used my I crochet hook for this blanket.

-These are the hooks I use exclusively now. They have helped end any hand pain I had started to develop a few years ago and are worth every penny!

Now, I know that I blanket like this is a daunting task. It’s one of those types of projects that you really WANT to do, but just don’t think you have the time. But, you do – if you can just do One Row Per Day. That is what I did. I started this blanket January 1 in 2018 and did one row per day until I was done – around July. But, admittedly I didn’t border it and weave in my ends until February 2019 because Etsy and local orders just got crazy for me.

But, a piece like this is a treasure. It’s a treasure that you find less and less these days.

I hope this post can inspire you. And if it does I would love to see your finished blankets.

Now, as a big Amazon shopper- since I live a bit far from most all stores- here are some of my favorite latest things – I’ve already started shopping for Christmas and I use a lot of these products in my business and for myself <3 – your purchase through my links helps fund my blog.  Thank you so much – when you see links on my blog they are things that I have ordered and used and approve <3 <3 <3

  1. This is absolutely beautiful! I would love to start something like this in the new year (currently trying to finish too many projects I started haha). For the width of the blanket, I would love to make a king sized one as well, how many stitches did you do to start, like chain link length or what?

    Thank you!!

    1. Thank you. The new year is a perfect time! I am going to screen grab this to remember to go look that up. I may have to get it out and count. I’ll get back to you on this though once I find the answer.

    2. I just checked the pattern and I did follow the pattern for my starting count. I went with the 240 as the writer recommended since I wasn’t sure how adjusting it would effect the rest of the stitches. She gave that count so that all the stitch combinations would work. I also used the J hook recommended. ❤️

  2. Links don’t work anymore would love to know what pattern you used or interested in buying a pattern for the one.
