Crochet Alphabets: Letter M & N

Today, I am giving you a BONUS letter!  Since the letter N is made the same as the M except the last part, I am goingt o post them both here.

Letter M:

Chain 17

Sc in 2^nd chain and in next 15 chains. (16) Ch 1 and turn

Hdc in FLO 16 across Ch and turn

Sc in BLO 16 across.

When you finish the last stitch you will not turn, but turn a quarter to work in the end and make the following in the middle: hdc, 3 dc, hdc.

Ch 7 and turn. Work along this chain 7: sc, sc3tog, sc, sc, and then slip stitch around the curve for 7 slip stitches.

Ch 18

Hdc in 2^nd ch and in next 5

(Skip 2, dc 5 in the next space) repeat 2 times more

Skip 2 and slip stitch in the vertical stroke in the stitch above where your chain 18 starts.

Slip stitch in next. Ch 1

Hdc in chain and along curve for 21 hdc, then sc in the last 2.

Ch 1 and turn

Sc back up along the curve for 15 stitches.

Slip stitch in the next.

Chain 32. Work the following stitches in the chain: hdc 24, (3sc, 1sc) 3 times, sc in last.

Slip stitch in the next chain on the top curve (after the chain 32)

Turn, but Don’t chain.

Slip stitch in the 1^st sc NOT the slip stitch.

Sc down the leg and turn.

Sc back up the leg and slip stitch to the top.

Letter N: * The letter N is worked just like the letter M, but we finish before the second hump.

Chain 17

Sc in 2^nd chain and in next 15 chains. (16) Ch 1 and turn

Hdc in FLO 16 across Ch and turn

Sc in BLO 16 across.

When you finish the last stitch you will not turn, but turn a quarter to work in the end and make the following in the middle: hdc, 3 dc, hdc.

Ch 7 and turn. Work along this chain 7: sc, sc3tog, sc, sc, and then slip stitch around the curve for 7 slip stitches.

Ch 18

Hdc in 2^nd ch and in next 5

Skip 2 and slip stitch in the vertical stroke in the stitch above where your chain 18 starts.

Slip stitch in next. Ch 1

Hdc in chain and along curve for 21 hdc, then sc in the last 2.

Ch 1 and turn

Sc back up along the curve until you get back to the top. * I slip stitched across the top and did my FO next to the little hook on the upper left side.

 

The last step to these letters is steam blocking.  This step is so important.  I can’t stress how important and what kind of difference this step makes.  I did a post about steam blocking HERE in relation to a different project, but the idea is the same.  This step takes your letter up a notch!  It makes is lay flat, look professional, soften a little and just all around look so much better.
