And – I AM DONE! This whole year, I have been writing up patterns for these little crochet lower case letters. I posted in one of my early post that I wanted to create these because one of my most popular Etsy custom orders is for CUSTOM CROCHET LETTERS, but my patterns for those come from a book and some customers want lower case letters – and the book is only upper case – so, I decided to make my own font.
I am giving you all three of the last letters right here on this post. All of the letters can be found free right here on my blog, but I also have a downloadable PDF that you can purchase to have them all in the same place. The PDF has the measurements of each letter, my stitch glossary, and more.
I will release all the letters this year for FREE right here on my blog. So, check back with me often. All patterns are located here on my blog. You will find individual links below for each letter or you can find a PDF on my ETSY that has them all right HERE.
Find links to the previous letters at the bottom of this post.
This pattern is intended for personal use only. This pattern -and all my patterns- are offered for free or a small fee to help support my family so please do not redistribute, sell, copy or use them in any way not in accordance with fairness.
You may sell products made from this pattern, but please give me credit as the designer. Please do not use my photos as your own work, but you may use my photos to reference back to my blog, Etsy, Pinterest, IG or FB, but please link back to me. You can find me at all these places as The Burgundy Basket
If you find any problems with this pattern please let me know and if you have any problems with any of it feel free to message me and ask for support.
Letter X:
Make 2 pieces. FO after the first part and weave in the end, but do NOT FO the second piece.
Chain 19.
R1: (2hdc) 2, hdc 12, (hdc dec) 2. Chain 1 and turn. (18)
R2: (hdc dec) 2, hdc 10, (2hdc, hdc) 2 (18) – FO for the first, but chain 1 and turn for the second.
On the second piece: (2sc) 4, sc 4
Place the first piece under the 2nd piece with the curve stroke down and going to the right. I took a picture of this to clear it up:
Slip stitch them together at a slight downward angle. I made 3 slip stitches across mine through both layers.
After they are slip stitched together continue to sc down the lower side of the top piece until you get to the bottom curve and slip stitch around bottom curve and continue to slip stitch back up the top piece until you get back to where the two pieces overlap. Pull your working tail under both pieces so you can slip stich these two sides together and then FO and weave in the end. (see photo)
Letter Y:
Chain 13
Starting in the 2nd chain from the hook, sc 12 across the chain. Chain 1 and turn
Sc3tog, sc2tog, sc 4, (2sc) 2, (sc, 2hdc) Chain 1 and turn
Hdc, hdc, 3sc, sc 9, slip stitch in the next 2 spaces to get to the bottom.
Chain 21. (this is the top right part of the letter) – flip the letter over to be working in the chain “the right way” (you won’t be looking at the back of the chain, but a normal chain).
Sc, sc, sc3tog, sc all the way back down the chain and slip stitch to the base of the first part of the letter and then chain 13.
In the 2nd chain from the hook (and working on the backside of the chain so that the letter faces you the right direction) hdc, (2hdc)3, hdc all the way back up and slip stitch to the base.
SC up the upper Right part of the letter and slip stitch in the next (see photos) – the last photo points to where you slip stitch goes. (it is just under the little upper curve). Don’t chain, but turn.
Skip the slip stitch and slip stitch in the first sc and then sc all the way down the upper right and into the base and then down the bottom part. Make 3sc in the last stitch and slip stitch up the inside of the bottom part on the opposite side of where you were just working. FO with a little tail and sew up the gap in the middle.
Letter Z:
Chain 65
In the 2nd chain from the hook, Hdc 15
2 hdc in the next 5 stitches
Hdc 25. Chain 1 and turn
(2hdc, hdc)3, 2hdc, 1 hdc in each stitch to the end. Chain 1 and turn.
Hdc 47
(skip 2, shell) 4 times
Skip 2and then hdc to the end. Chain 1 and turn
Sc all the way around the letter.
FO and then tack down the middle with a little stitch or two.
The last step to these letters is steam blocking. This step is so important – especially for letters like this when you need to block the curvy parts of the letter. I can’t stress how important and what kind of difference this step makes. I did a post about steam blocking HERE in relation to a different project, but the idea is the same. This step takes your letter up a notch! It makes is lay flat, look professional, soften a little and just all around look so much better.
